As was to be expected, the terror attacks in Mumbai cast a gloom over the box office. It was but natural that audiences would stay away from theatres, not just in this city but also the rest of India.
Of the three films that were slated for release, only two, Dibakar Banerjee's Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! and Onir's Sorry Bhai saw the light of day. The President Is Coming was initially postponed to a Saturday release and now it has been pushed to next week. The production houses of both Onir and Banerjee's films wanted to also opt for a postponement but went ahead with their releases in the last moment. Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! just about managed a collection of around 10 to 15 per cent, mostly seen in the multiplexes. In other parts of the country, the film has managed collections between 20 to 25 per cent. The prospects of the film did not improve over the weekend but the film should pick up. Onir's film, on the other hand, just about managed an opening of 5 to 7 per cent in most parts. Of last week's releases, Subhash Ghai's Yuvvraaj is limping along, while Tarun Mansukhani's Dostana is doing better outside the city. There are five films up for release next week are, The President Is Coming, Anil Sharma's Dil Kabaddi, Maharathi, directed by Shivam Nair, Oh, My God! directed by Sourabh Srivastav, Meerabai Not Out directed by Chandrakant Kulkarni and Gumnaam directed by Neeraj Pathak <
